This 2000 Lola Indy car project is where it all began. MINDDRIVE students and mentors acquired Jimmy Vasser’s wrecked Indy race car back in 2010 and proceeded to convert it into a super efficient electric vehicle. It was never intended to be a practical car as it was always an test of design and efficiency. Lola was tested at the Bridgestone Proving Grounds in 2011 and achieved 454 miles-per-gallon equivalent for an electric car. It then went on to attend Earth Day in Washington D.C. and was invited to the Pixar Motorama for the launch of the movie Cars 2. It has also been driven around Indianapolis Motor Speedway by our students.
